Tamara and Bill Volz are renowned not only as Colorado’s only married couple serving as community instructors in the Expanding Quality in Infant Toddler Care (EQ) Initiative, but also for covering both ends of the spectrum to promote professionalism among care providers.
Tamara, in her role as director of the Early Childhood Council of La Plata County, is passionate about developing a strong, integrated system to support young children and families. She works at the systems level, building community-wide partnerships among early care and education, health, mental health, and family support services. At the same time, Bill’s passion is supporting meaningful relationships between caregiver and child. His roles as a Head Start teacher, environmental rating scale assessor, center director, and area supervisor for Head Start and Early Head Start have all been connected to improving the quality of care starting at the most fundamental, person-to-person level.
Tamara has been involved in the EQ Initiative from its inception. She attended the first EQIT training of trainers in 1999-2000 in her previous role as coordinator of the La Plata Early Childhood Council pilot program. Along with her co-instructors, she taught the Expanding QUality in Infant Toddler CAre course (EQIT) annually in La Plata County through 2009, when she pased out to focus on Touchpoints trainings.
